Evercontact se marie à l’américain One More Company

Fondée l’an passé par deux français installés à New York, la startup américaine One More Company est à l’origine d’une solution de carte de visite virtuelle pour les mails. En quête de la taille critique, elle vient d’officialiser l’acquisition du jeune éditeur tricolore de solution de contact management Evercontact. Cette filiale du parisien Kwaga avait aussi comme actionnaire Axa Strategic Ventures depuis un tour de 0,7 M€ mené à sa création, en avril 2015. Pour la transaction, One More Company a combiné un paiement en cash et en titres. Tout cela sachant qu’Axa Strategic Venture avait préalablement participé, avec Aurinvest, à un tour de table de 2 M€ mené par l’acheteur pour financer son emplette. Initié par les actionnaires financiers des deux startups, ce rapprochement cherche à faire émerger un concurrent sérieux à Full Contact, le leader américain du secteur ayant déjà empoché pas moins de 44 M$ (39,5 M€) de financements depuis sa création en 2010. A date, One More Company distribue ses solutions gratuitement mais devrait annoncer une offre premium dans les prochains jours. NEW YORK and PARIS, Aug. 30, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- One More Company, the 13-month young company which has launched Senders and Trackbuster, has acquired Paris-based contact syncing innovator Evercontact. As part of the transaction, One More Company received new investments from AXAStrategic Ventures and Aurinvest.

 

 

Terms of the transaction and investments were not disclosed.

"Adding Evercontact's technical team, customers, and assets to what we already are building is an opportunistic acquisition for us so early on," said Florian Seroussi, Co-founder, and CEO of New York City-based One More Company. "Evercontact will remain a standalone service. As a result of the acquisition, it will rapidly boost the growth of our flagship service Senders as we leverage the strengths of the combined customer base. With the additional experience and depth being added to our technical and sales teams, we can now build out more strategic partnerships and put greater efforts behind B2B sales efforts, both in Europe and North America, far sooner than anticipated."

Combined, Evercontact, Senders and Trackbuster products will now have 100,000 active users, with over 300,000 installations combined as of July 31, 2016. Together the three services process 3.5 million emails per day and manage the information of over four million contacts, all on a real-time, up-to-date basis. The companies also have five patents issued or pending in the US and worldwide, along with various trademarks and other intellectual property developed over the past eight years.

As a mobile-first, technology-based startup, the acquisition increases One More Company's technology team to eleven computer science Ph.D's, with 4 holding degrees in Natural Language Processing from leading universities.

Senders is the only integrated solution that works flawlessly on mobile. Recent reports show that a majority of email Is opened on a smartphone or tablet. 86% of emails in Q1 2016 were opened on a mobile device, according to EmalMonday, a leading online authority on the subject which highlighted "The Kahuna Mobile Marketing Index" for Q1 2016.

Can we create strategic relevance while focusing on IRR at @AXAVentures?

The question is often asked for #CVC. In our case, we are not corporate venture capital but rather an independent VC Firm with 1 Limited Partner. We make investment decisions based on the quality of entrepreneurs. However, to increase valuation, we often look at the insurance company, AXA Group, to leverage the investment in 3 manners.

1. Get AXA to be a client and solve a specific problem. In the case of Evercontact, we are trying to crack how SalesForce could interact with all agents in helping them to collect contacts via emails
2. Get AXA to be a distributor. We can image AXA offering Evercontact' services to its 1m Prosumer clients in France
3. Get AXA to insure. Not in the particular case but when the startup sells an insurance like in FlyR or ClimateSecure, we use AXA to help out.

L’Agefi Hebdo : AXA élargit son terrain de chasse dans l'innovation

Parallèlement aux initiatives internes, l'assureur compte investir dans les cinq ans 200 millions d'euros dans des start-up à l'échelle mondiale.

Le groupe Axa se veut toujours plus conquérant dans l'innovation. Créée en février 2015, Axa Strategic Ventures, société de l'assureur dédiée à des investissements dans des start-up, se déploie et vient de réaliser un premier investissement de près d'un million de dollars (930.000 d'euros) dans Evercontact, spécialisé dans l'extraction de coordonnées dans les e-mails. « Axa Strategic Ventures a pris le relais d'Axa Seed Factory, véhicule pilote de 10 millions d'euros lancé en 2013 par Axa France et dont le périmètre était limité aux start-up françaises en phase d'amorçage. Or nous avons constaté un réel besoin d'accompagnement à l'échelle internationale pour ces sociétés, ainsi bien sûr qu'un besoin d'étendre nos investissements à toutes les régions où des start-up émergent », commente François Robinet, président d'Axa Strategic Ventures.

Un ancrage en Asie à l'étude

La société de capital-risque élargit dès lors son terrain de chasse et intègre, outre les investissements dans la phase d'amorçage des sociétés, ceux dans les entreprises plus matures (late stage). Les investissements réalisés par Axa Seed Factory (Fundshop, Particeep, Widmee, FlyR et ClimateSecure), repris par Axa Strategic Ventures, viennent compléter le portefeuille, appelé à croître. A changement de dimension, élargissement des moyens. Le véhicule, dont Axa représente l'unique investisseur, dispose dans un premier temps de 200 millions d'euros. « Notre objectif est d'investir cette enveloppe dans les cinq ans », prévoit François Robinet, ajoutant que ce montant pourra être rehaussé en fonction des opportunités et de l'expansion géographique.

Axa Strategic Ventures développe actuellement ses assises à l'international. « Nous déployons les structures juridiques dans les différents pays, avec en Europe des implantations principales à Paris et Londres et des relais à Berlin et Zurich », explique le dirigeant. Aux Etats-Unis, des bureaux sont en cours de constitution à San Francisco et New York, tandis que la société réfléchit « très activement » à une implantation en Asie. Parallèlement, les occasions ne manquent pas. « Le flux de dossiers que nous recevons se révèle significatif et de qualité », observe-t-il. Et les secteurs visés sont multiples. « Les principaux thèmes d'investissement sont aujourd'hui le 'big data', au coeur du métier de l'assurance, les objets connectés en vue de mieux comprendre le rapport risques-clients ou encore l'e-commerce appliqué à l'assurance. Notre objectif est plus globalement d'investir dans ce qui va améliorer l'expérience et le parcours client au sein d'Axa », synthétise François Robinet.

Au-delà de l'aspect financier, « l'idée est de participer à la transformation du groupe et de faciliter la mise en relation entre ces start-up et les différentes activités d'Axa », développe le président. Une coentreprise a été créée entre Axa Corporate Solutions, filiale dédiée aux grandes entreprises, et ClimateSecure, spécialisée dans l'analyse de données météo. De même, des synergies pourraient intervenir entre la société FlyR, qui anticipe l'évolution du prix des billets d'avion, et les activités d'assurance voyage d'Axa.

Les effectifs suivent dans ce contexte une pente ascendante. « Nous sommes en phase de recrutement, annonce François Robinet. Nos équipes devraient prochainement atteindre une quinzaine de collaborateurs, alors que nous n'étions que deux à l'origine de ce projet. »Ces investissements dans des start-up complètent une palette d'initiatives internes. Axa, à travers ses différentes activités, a ainsi investi 950 millions d'euros sur les trois dernières années dans des projets d'évolution interne pour anticiper les transformations liées à la révolution numérique. A cela s'ajoutent différents dispositifs : Axa Lab (observatoire au sein de la Silicon Valley), Start-in (qui vise à développer la réflexion d'équipes internes sur des idées nouvelles) ou encore le Data Innovation Lab (centre d'expertise pour la recherche et l'innovation autour du big data). Axa, via son entité internationale d'assurance Direct Axa Global Direct, a par ailleurs lancé en décembre dernier avec l'agence de développement économique Paris&Co un programme d'incubation... dans lequel Evercontact avait fait son entrée.

La conquête de l'innovation constitue un axe également développé par de nombreux acteurs financiers français, qui multiplient les initiatives. Alors que l'an passé, Crédit Agricole a ouvert un village dédié et que Covéa a mis sur pied un incubateur spécialisé dans l'habitat connecté, BNP Paribas a lancé la semaine passée un espace d'hébergement de start-up.

International expansion and presence in San Francisco

Un développement à l’international et une ouverture de bureau à San Francisco

Pour accompagner cette croissance,  la startup ouvrira une filiale à San Francisco au troisième trimestre 2015. Basée à Paris, Evercontact compte 10 collaborateurs et souhaite doubler son effectif en 2015.
